ProfileMihja' mawla Umar
Mihja' (may Allah be pleased with him) was a slave in Makkah who accepted Islam early and suffered for it. According to the early biographies, he was not freed by Abu Bakr, as so many tortured slaves were, but by Umar ibn al-Khattab, and he stayed attached to Umar as a freed man ever after. Almost nothing else is recorded. According to the early biographies, he was known for his worship, and used to pray at night with Umar.
According to the early biographies, he migrated to Madinah, and went out with the Prophet ﷺ to Badr. According to the early biographies, when the fighting was about to begin, he was struck by an arrow, and was heard saying that he was going back to his Lord, so that he was the first Muslim to die at Badr.
