ProfileSa'id ibn Zayd
Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) was the son of Zayd ibn Amr, the man who left the idols of Makkah and searched for the religion of Ibrahim, and who died before the Prophet ﷺ received revelation. Sa'id grew up in a house without idols. He accepted Islam early, and married Fatimah, the sister of Umar ibn al-Khattab.
Before Umar became Muslim, he was hard on Sa'id, who said that Umar had tied him up to make him give up Islam (Sahih al-Bukhari). According to the early biographies, Sa'id and Fatimah were learning the Quran with Khabbab ibn al-Aratt when Umar came in, and that day ended with Umar accepting Islam. According to the early biographies, he missed Badr because he was scouting with Talhah, and was counted among the men of Badr. According to the early historians, he fought at Damascus and Yarmouk and kept away from the fighting among Muslims.
He is one of the ten promised Paradise. In the hadith that lists them, he named nine of them and left out himself, until he was asked (Sunan Abi Dawud, graded sahih). A woman once took a complaint against him to Marwan, saying he had taken part of her land. He answered that he had heard the Prophet ﷺ say that whoever takes a span of land unjustly will have it hung around his neck, down to the seven earths, on the Day of Resurrection (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim). He lived quietly, and died around 51 AH.
