ProfileAnisah bint Adi
Anisah (may Allah be pleased with her) was the daughter of Adi ibn Nadlah, one of the early Muslims who migrated to Abyssinia. According to the early biographies, he died there, and she and her brother an-Numan were his heirs. Not much more is told of her. What is told is the journey. According to the early biographies, in 7 AH, after Khaybar, the Negus provided two boats to take the migrants who were still in Abyssinia to Madinah, and Anisah and her brother were among the passengers.
Abu Musa al-Ash'ari told how the news of the Prophet's ﷺ migration reached them in Yemen, and that he and his two brothers, Abu Burdah and Abu Ruhm, and fifty-odd men of his people, set out for him in a boat. It took them to the Negus in Ethiopia, where they met Ja'far ibn Abi Talib and stayed with him, and then they all came to Madinah together and met the Prophet ﷺ at the time of the conquest of Khaybar. Some of the people told the people of the boat that they had migrated before them. Asma bint Umays, who was among them, told the Prophet ﷺ what Umar had said, and he answered that Umar and his companions had only one migration, and that the people of the boat had two (Sahih al-Bukhari). According to the early biographies, when Ja'far arrived the Prophet ﷺ kissed him between his eyes and said that he did not know which he was happier about, the conquest of Khaybar or the arrival of Ja'far.
Those who came on the boats had missed Badr, Uhud and the Trench, and all that Madinah had lived through. They arrived for the last years of the Prophet's ﷺ life.
