ProfileAn-Numan ibn Adi
An-Numan (may Allah be pleased with him) was the son of Adi ibn Nadlah, who migrated to Abyssinia with the early Muslims and died there. According to the early biographies, his sister Anisah and he were their father's heirs. He stayed on in Abyssinia, where the Muslims lived under the protection of the Negus.
According to the early biographies, in 7 AH, after Khaybar, the Negus provided two boats for the Muslims who were still there, and an-Numan and Anisah were among those who sailed to Madinah. Abu Musa al-Ash'ari told that he and the others from Yemen came to the Negus in Ethiopia, met Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, stayed with him and then all came together to meet the Prophet ﷺ at the time of Khaybar. When some people said that they had migrated before the people of the boat, the Prophet ﷺ said that those who came by boat had two migrations (Sahih al-Bukhari). They had left Makkah in the first years of Islam. They had been away from the Prophet ﷺ for years, and they came to him when he had survived the Trench and taken Khaybar.
