ProfileSa'd ibn Khaythamah
Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) was a young man of the Banu Amr ibn Awf of the Aws, and one of the leaders at Aqabah. According to the early biographies, he was the representative of his clan at the first pledge, though he was young, because he was the only man of the clan there. When the Prophet ﷺ reached Quba, the young unmarried Muhajirun stayed at his house, which was called the house of the single men. His brother in faith among the Muhajirun was Abu Salamah, the first husband of Umm Salamah. According to the early biographies, the Prophet ﷺ spent his days there with the young men, and his nights with the elders at the house of Kulthum ibn al-Hidm.
According to the early biographies, when the Muslims went out to Badr, Sa'd and his father Khaythamah both wanted to go, and one of them had to stay with the family. Sa'd told his father that if it were not Paradise they were speaking of, he would prefer him to go, and they drew lots, and the lot fell on Sa'd. He went to Badr and was killed there, one of the very few Muslims who were. According to the early biographies, when the army came back to Quba, his father went through the ranks calling for Sa'd, and was told that he was a martyr. According to the early biographies, Khaythamah said that if Allah gave him another chance to be with the Prophet ﷺ, he would not miss it, and he was killed at Uhud.
