ProfileAmir ibn Abi Waqqas

Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) was a brother of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, of the Banu Zuhrah, and of Umayr, who was killed at Badr as a boy. He is sometimes written Amr, but the books give Amir. According to the early biographies, he was among those who escaped from the persecution in Makkah to Abyssinia. Sa'd stayed in Makkah, and the pressure was hard on both of them.

According to the early biographies, he stayed in Abyssinia for years while the Prophet ﷺ migrated to Madinah and the battles of Badr, Uhud and the Trench were fought. In 7 AH, after Khaybar, the Negus provided two boats for the Muslims who were still there. Amir was among those who sailed, and he joined his brother Sa'd and the Prophet ﷺ in Madinah. Abu Musa al-Ash'ari told how the people of the boat, who had come to the Negus and met Ja'far, then came together to meet the Prophet ﷺ at the time of Khaybar, and the Prophet ﷺ said that they had two migrations (Sahih al-Bukhari). He was one of the many who had paid for their faith by years away from home, and who had a few years with the Prophet ﷺ at the end.
